Best Car Rental for Surfers in Taghazout: 2026 Honest Guide (Agadir Airport)

Surfer loading a board into a rental SUV at sunrise on the road to Anchor Point Taghazout

If you've flown to Agadir with a board bag and a swell forecast, the rental car is the link between you and the wave. Taghazout's surf zone runs roughly 40 km of coast — Tamraght, Banana, Hash Point, Anchor Point, Killer Point, Boilers, Imsouane Bay — and none of them are walkable from anywhere except the few surf hostels right on top of the break. The right rental makes the difference between catching dawn at Anchor and being stuck waiting for a shared van.

This guide is the honest 2026 version: what car actually fits a longboard, where to park at each break, how the airport pickup works when you arrive with boards in tow, and how much a 10-day trip realistically costs. Written for surfers by people based 30 km south of Anchor Point.

The Short Answer for Surfers

For most surfers staying in Taghazout: take an SUV. A small SUV with fold-flat rear seats carries up to a 7'2 funboard inside (no roof straps), accommodates any board on the included soft racks, and handles the dirt tracks down to Killer Point. The SUV from €32/day is what 70% of our surf customers choose. Economy works if you're shortboard-only and travelling light.

What Actually Fits Inside Each Car Category

Car categoryBoards that fit insideRoof rack optionBest for
Economy (Dacia Sandero)6'0 shortboard with seats foldedSoft racks availableSolo shortboarder, light luggage
Automatic (Kia Picanto auto)Same as EconomySoft racks availableSolo or couple, automatic preference
SUV (Duster, Captur)Up to 7'2 funboard insideSoft + hard racksMost surfers — longboards, multi-board, couples
7-seater (Logan MCV)Two 7'0 boards insideSoft + hard racksSurf families, groups, full quivers

If you're bringing a 9'0+ longboard or two boards minimum, the Economy is not the right choice. The €9/day difference between Economy and SUV is €90 over 10 days — less than what you'd pay for two airport-shuttle trips if the surf moves.

The 40-km Coastline — Parking at Each Break

Tamraght (km 18). Small village, scattered parking on the main strip. Spider's, Cro Cro, Devil's Rock all walkable. Park near your hostel.

Banana Beach (km 21). Free roadside parking just south of the main beach access. No attendant. Don't leave wallets or laptops visible.

Hash Point (km 22). Free parking on the north end of Taghazout village near the white mosque. Get there before 9am in summer.

Anchor Point (km 23). The famous one. Free parking on the cliff above the break. An informal attendant accepts a 5–10 MAD tip — it's not mandatory but he keeps an eye on cars. Bring a board sock if leaving valuables visible.

Killer Point (km 24). Free roadside on the dirt access road. The road in is 200m of compacted dirt — fine in any car if you drive slowly.

Boilers (km 26). Park at the lot near Cafe Mouja. 5 MAD voluntary tip. Walk down the cliff path 5 minutes.

Imsouane Bay (km 60 from Agadir airport). Paid lot (10 MAD/day) near the small harbour. The bay is the only real long-period left-hand point in southern Morocco — worth the 1h drive.
